Fractional Roles on the Rise
Fractional leadership roles are still relatively new, but are on the rise.
This panel presentation from Transform 2024 is a great, candid discussion on what fractional roles are and how they can benefit companies of all sizes. It’s catered towards fractional People Leaders, but I think the sentiments apply to fractional Product Leaders as well.
Some highlights:
Fractional workers are “anyone who is in a position that is not an in-house role, that is for a fraction of time.” Sounds pretty simple, right? But it’s fairly revolutionary in the workplace. Don’t be fooled though. Fractional work is not a trend…it’s a movement.
Fractional leaders have “seen some things” in their career and understand how to “use their impact, to make the most impact.” This is why fractional leaders are able to have an impact on the business in a matter of weeks.
Tapping into fractional leaders offers a huge competitive advantage. It’s a fast injection of expertise, with an agility full time hiring doesn’t offer. Especially for smaller companies, you are able to access decades of talent at a fraction of the cost. Prior to Series B, you likely don’t need a full-time Product Leader, you need a thought partner.
